I have KLX 250, NOT "S" but i think it's the same, different I think is onli theexhaust profile.
max speed is about 120 KM/H at about 7500 rpm
the steer is very light at those speed. I suggest long distance highway trip at 100km/h, not 120, nice but not so comfortable....

Bikes are awesome machines no matter what. I just love'm all. Of course some are substially faster than others--which makes them that much more desirable, in my eyes.

The KLX is dreadful on the tarmac. It would be awful on a highway. The 5th gear is about the same as the 4th. The 5th has zero pulling power. The bike is so restricted it would take big $ to get it anywhere near average. 300cc hop up, new carb, exhaust system. Save your money. Take a bus.

Read my comment from earlier, you need to get a aftermarket exhaust system, a better carb, perhaps 300cc barrel, etc.
You might be able to squeeze some more top end by bolting on a smaller rear spocket.
Sell it and buy a train pass.
